Texas, a state known for oil production, has become a leader in the development and use of renewable energy, especially wind power. And solar energy production is growing rapidly in the “Lone Star State,” spurred on by its abundant sunshine and the sharp drop in the price of solar panels in recent years. As VOA’s Greg Flakus reports from Houston, economics supersedes politics on this issue. Originally published at - http://www.voanews.com/a/3565006.html

Visit http://www.gosolartexas.org for more information. Utility scale renewable energy has proven to be a reliable source of electricity for Texas. Solar energy is rapidly expanding across the state of Texas and is a compliment to the ever expanding wind energy already in place. These renewable resources are a benefit to the energy security of the state.
Georgetown, Texas announced in March, 2015, that it signed two deals making it the first city in Texas to be powered by 100% renewable energy. This video explores the reasons behind their decision, shows how it works, and discusses the conditions that made it possible.
In the United States, electricity is managed by and distributed across an overlapping patchwork of three interconnection zones: the Western Interconnection, the Eastern Interconnection, and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT). These zones all work together in real time to ensure reliable and affordable power delivery. Each new energy project requires a unique assessment of rules and regulations to operate successfully. Despite these hurdles, wind and solar energy have flourished in the United States. With innovative technology and improved forecasting, Iberdrola Renewables is overcoming challenges and leading the transformation to a competitive, clean energy future. PORT ARTHUR - by Lauren Huet A renewable energy source is gaining popularity in Europe, and a large amount of this energy source comes from Southeast Texas. No, it's not oil. No, not natural gas, either. It's pine wood pellets. The cylindrical pellets are made from dried wood-chips, have a high energy density, and are burned to generate electricity and heating. The company German Pellets approached the Port of Port Arthur about two years ago. The two signed a 25 year contract for German Pellets to build five silos in the port, and ship thousands of tons of German Pellets to Europe. Construction on the silos finished in September, and German Pellet exports began in October. So each ship is going to pick up and deliver 50 thousand tons of pellets, going to Europe twice a month from Port A...

Billions of dollars are going into the effort to reduce global warming - but is it an exercise in futility? U.S. President Donald Trump certainly thinks so. But is he being short-sighted in removing America from the Paris Climate Agreement? It was seen as a historic moment - the beginning of a global campaign to save the planet. The 2015 Paris Climate Agreement saw almost all the world's countries commit to reducing their emissions, with the United States leading the charge. But Donald Trump has made it clear he thinks it's a bad deal for America. But is it? As the rest of the world heads towards, cheaper, greener energy, some say the world's largest economy is missing a trick.. Steve Goreham is a speaker, an author, a researcher on environmental issues, and an independent columnist. He’s the Executive Director of the Climate Science Coalition of America, a non-political association dedicated to informing about the realities of climate science and energy economics. Steve gave this presentation at the Friends of Science 'Climate Dogma Exposed' event in Calgary on May 9th 2017. He says "contrary to what your political leader, professor, and newspaper tell you, global warming is dominated by natural factors. As a result, thousands of climate and energy laws across hundreds of nations, all summed together, are not going to have a measureable effect on Earth’s temperatures."
Bill Ellard of Energy Solutions Partners discusses the current and future trends in the solar industry, with a focus on utility tariff reform for residential premises. Besides delving into proposed net-metering changes and their effect on solar adoption in the US, Mr. Ellard explores the changing pricing dynamics for PV solar and storage, and how this relates to tariff reform in the utility sector. With a focus on 2017 solar and renewable trends, he looks at the potential impacts on the solar industry of the incoming US administration. Bill Ellard is founder of Energy Solutions Partners (ESP) in Boulder, CO. Originally trained in econometrics, statistics, and energy economics, Bill, through ESP, provides consulting services to utilities and municipalities exploring opportunities in distri...

Life Is Good : Sustainable Living (National Geographic Documentary) Sustainable living is a lifestyle that attempts to reduce an individual's or society's use of the Earth's natural resources and personal resources. Practitioners of sustainable living often attempt to reduce their carbon footprint by altering methods of transportation, energy consumption, and diet. Proponents of sustainable living aim to conduct their lives in ways that are consistent with sustainability, in natural balance and respectful of humanity's symbiotic relationship with the Earth's natural ecology and cycles. The practice and general philosophy of ecological living is highly interrelated with the overall principles of sustainable development. Lester R. A number of Island countries have ambitious targets of 100% RE for their electricity generation. This webinar will showcase how this has been technically achieved on King Island and what is planned for Flinders Island (two Islands off Tasmania). We will then move to the Pacific Islands and discuss in detail Tokelau and Tuvalu followed by provide an overview of the RE targets for a number of Pacific Islands and the projects being undertaken to help them meet these targets.
The webinar provides an overview of the competitive renewable energy zone (CREZ) process, including the regulatory, procedural and technical considerations that were critical to its successful implementation in Texas. The webinar also introduces a Renewable Energy Zones “Toolkit” that is intended to guide other power systems in adapting elements of the CREZ approach to their own power system planning processes.
In this episode of the podcast Trevor and I sit down and talk about a little bit of everything.
This is incredible to see this switch occurring, and it looks like every Lithium demand report that has been produced in 2016 has got it wrong. After watching this video documentary, you can clearly see that global Lithium demand, maybe underestimated for our future. Published on May 5, 2016 It’s not in the papers but a silent revolution is moving across the world. Renewable energy is becoming cheaper than from fossil fuels. It means that progressively the choice for wind and solar energy is no longer an ethical one but an economic one. And this will speed up the transfer to renewable energy. In countries like Brazil, Australia, Chile and parts of the United States people consider renewable energy because of financial reasons. The price of solar and wind energy will continue to drop an...
